Journey to Sumba, an extraordinary island where nature, culture, and adventure collide. This 4 days & 3 nights overland trip takes you through Sumba’s most breathtaking landscapes, charming traditional villages, and pristine beaches, promising memories to last a lifetime.
Day 1: Crystal Waters and Timeless Traditions
Your adventure begins with a warm welcome at Tambolaka Airport, followed by a local lunch to energize for the day ahead. The first stop? Weekuri Lagoon, a natural saltwater pool with shimmering turquoise waters where you can swim or simply soak in the stunning views. Just a short drive away is Mandorak Beach, a hidden gem with dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear waves. As the sun begins to set, we visit Ratenggaro Village, where you’ll be immersed in the rich traditions of the Sumbanese people. Marvel at ancient stone tombs and iconic peaked houses, perfect for snapshots that tell a story.
As night falls, return to your hotel in Tambolaka for a delicious dinner and well-deserved rest.
Day 2: Waterfalls, Hills, and Cultural Treasures
The second day begins with an invigorating visit to Weekacura or Lapopu Waterfall, a cascading paradise surrounded by lush greenery. Dive in for a refreshing swim, or capture its beauty from every angle. Afterward, delve into Sumba’s cultural heart at Prai’ijing Village, where you’ll learn about local traditions and witness the harmonious blend of nature and architecture. The afternoon promises awe-inspiring vistas at Wairinding Hill, a surreal landscape of rolling savannas painted golden by the setting sun. Before ending the day, make a stop at Kalu Village, the perfect place to pick up handcrafted souvenirs to remember your trip.
Day 3: Sunrise, Savannas, and Dancing Trees
Rise early for a magical sunrise at Tenau Hill, where the golden rays illuminate endless landscapes. After a hearty breakfast, it’s off to the expansive Savanna Purukambera, a painter’s dream of rolling hills and wild horses. The adventure intensifies at Tanggedu Waterfall, often called the Grand Canyon of Sumba. Trek through scenic trails to discover a secluded oasis perfect for swimming and exploration. Cap the day with a sunset at Walakiri Beach, famous for its ethereal “dancing trees” that come alive as the tide rolls in. This serene moment is a perfect ending to an action-packed day.
Day 4: Farewell to Sumba
Due to recent adjustments in flight schedules in Sumba, the final day of your adventure will be a little different. Don’t worry, you’ve already explored all the must-visit spots!
